Q&A

Common questions, clear answers.

The 1Sun team is always here to help. Here's what most people want to know before they get started — from how the paths differ to what happens with your supplier.

Getting started
Do I need to already have solar to use 1Sun?

No. You can start from scratch or connect an existing system. 1Sun offers different paths depending on your setup — from installing a full system, to accessing one through subscription, or improving an existing solar and battery setup.

What do I need to get started?

In most cases, a smart meter and a suitable roof or existing solar setup. Enter your postcode and a few details about your home, and we'll confirm eligibility, recommend a path and prepare a tailored quote — no commitment required.

How long does installation take?

A typical residential solar and battery install is completed in one to two days once your survey and paperwork are done. Connecting an existing system through the Boost service is usually completed remotely within a few days.

Which service is right for me?

If you want to own your hardware outright, choose Buy. If you'd rather avoid upfront cost and keep things simple, choose the fixed-price Subscription. If you already own solar and a battery, Boost connects and optimises what you have. Our team will confirm the best fit when you request a quote.

Earnings & optimisation
How does 1Sun help me earn from my energy?

1Sun coordinates when your system stores, uses and exports energy — charging when power is cheap and releasing it when demand and prices are high. Aggregated across many homes, that flexibility has value to the grid, and the value it creates flows back to you as measurable earnings.

Do I need a battery to earn?

A battery unlocks the most value, because it lets your system shift energy to the most valuable moments rather than exporting the instant it's generated. The Boost service requires owned or purchased battery storage; the Buy and Subscription paths can include a battery from the start.

Can I see what my system is doing?

Yes. The 1Sun monitoring app shows generation, storage, exports and earnings in real time, so you always know how your system is performing and what it's returning.

Suppliers & switching
Will I need to switch energy supplier?

Not necessarily. 1Sun is a technology company, not an energy supplier. Where a change would improve your energy profile and earnings, we can support access to suitable suppliers through comparison and switching journeys — but the choice always stays with you.

Who manages the supplier switch?

If a switch makes sense for you, 1Sun guides and coordinates the process end to end, working with licensed partners. We handle the complexity so you can stay focused on the outcome.

Is 1Sun an energy supplier?

No. 1Sun is a technology company that installs, connects and optimises home energy systems. Actual energy supply is provided by licensed partners.

Costs & support
What does it cost?

It depends on the path. Buy is a one-time purchase; Subscription and Boost are fixed monthly prices with no upfront cost. You'll get a clear, tailored quote for your home before you commit to anything.

What happens if something goes wrong with my system?

Optimised systems are monitored continuously, so many issues are spotted before you'd notice them. Subscription and Boost customers are supported for the life of the plan, and our team is always reachable through the app or the contact page.

Can I change or cancel my plan later?

Yes. You can move between services as your needs change — for example, adding optimisation to a system you bought, or upgrading storage. Our team will talk you through the options and any terms that apply to your plan.
